Food Of Gods Cocoa Beans Essay - 1817 Words

The ingredient that will be talked about throughout the paper is cocoa beans. The cocoa bean is scientifically defined as the dried and fully fermented fatty seed of Theobroma cacao, also Latin for â€Å"food of gods† for its properties. Throughout history, cocoa beans have held a place in history and a big impact on both human diet and economy within the world. The aim of this paper is to look at the origins of this ingredient, it’s uses in the world, how it has grown geographically throughout the years and how it has affected people’s lives and diets. To find answers these questions, academic sources, videos, and maps will be used. The geographical scope of the report will be wide, as will be looking at certain places in Africa, South America, and North America to compare and contrast from one another. The cocoa beans come from a seeded tree known as Theobroma cacao (Tarifu, 2003). Cocoa began as a seed in fruit pods found in the tree and each pod contains 30 to 40 beans. Commercial cocoa comes from beans that originated as seeds from the ripe pods of the plant, which is cultivated in plantations throughout the world (Ardhana, 2004). There a three different types of cocoa that reside in the world; forastero, crillo and trinitario which is a hybrid of forastero and crillo.
